Jamie Whear is a 23-year-old writer living in the West Country, yearning for a change of scenery. He completed a BA in creative writing in 2007, prior to the Scriptwriting MA. He is most comfortable writing for T.V or film because he feels that the ability to use multiple distances and depths of sights and sounds is most beautifully captured on screen. He thinks this is the best way to make a story compelling and emotionally provocative for an audience.
Jamie finds it hard not to integrate comedy into his work, regardless of subject, because he believes there is always a funny side to life. “People,” he says “can be fascinating, unbelievably dull, or shocking, but taking a light-hearted approach can often reveal comedy in the most serious, personal situations.”
Obviously, Jamie wants to work as a scriptwriter, but currently makes money from working as a labourer. He is trying to gain experience in production companies so that he can be in the right places, and also pursue work in the more practical fields of film and T.V. He has embarked on a number of projects; making his own short film, and co-writing for a number of sketches which he then acted in and helped film. He has experience using some camera and sound equipment, such as the Z1 camcorder, and boom mics.
Jamie holds a firm belief that one should try their best to get a job doing what they love, rather than rotting from boredom in a mundane money making existence. Drama queen? Maybe. But this is his goal.
